100 Intriguing Facts about the Historic House of Orleans USA, Philadelphia’s Landmark, Espionage, Pine Road, & the American Revolution

Authored by Matt Falcone

House of Orleans USA - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19115

PHILADELPHIA – The House of Orleans, USA. Spanning 2.5 miles and wider than Manhattan, this landmark was built in the 1950s by the Royal Family. This is a photo of my parents’ home. My mother’s name is Arlene, and intriguingly, the streets within Philadelphia 19115 are shaped to spell out “Arlene.” Additionally, by switching the last two letters in “Arlene” from “NE” to “AN,” it forms “Orleans,” as in the House of Orléans.

The House of Orléans” refers not to a physical home, as it is the name of the historic Royal family of France, descending from the Capetian Dynasty, which played a significant role in French history & the American Revolution.

In America, our landmark stretches over 2 miles within Philadelphia, dwarfing both Central Park and the width of Manhattan in New York City. It has been compared to iconic symbols such as the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, the Space Needle in Seattle, and the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. It epitomizes the National Landmarks of America, standing as a testament to American history and a hallmark of our nation’s legacy.

Beginning at Pennypack Park on Pine Rd. at Kingsfield Rd. and concluding at Red Line Road, my parents were the inaugural homeowners in the 1960s, the first owners.

Within this neighborhood and the words “Orléans,” the streets are named after distinguished military figures from the opposing side of the war, spanning various eras from the American Revolution to World War II. Streets like Lockart, Darlington, Welsh, and Clinton allude to espionage and historical military significance.

Grant Ave 19115
There’s Ulysses S. Grant, and then the British have 6 different British Military leaders named Grant:

British Field Marshal Patrick Grant (Highest rank in the British Army)

British General Sir Henry Fane Grant
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Grant_(British_Army_officer)

Contrary to what one might assume, the street name is unrelated to Ulysses S. Grant and instead commemorates British military leaders.

Orleans - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19115

In the 1950’s Grant Ave. 19115 was named and mostly completed, as prior it had many different names. It ends at Frankford Ave. aka The King’s Highway which was built by King George II from 1682 to the late 1790’s. http://kingshighwayfilm.com Those dates were all before Civil War, so regardless of the construction date of Grant Ave, I would still say the name Grant Ave has absolutely nothing at all to do with Ulysses S. Grant.

Portis Rd Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19115

We also have Portis Rd. which is a combination of 2 words = La Porte + Paris = Portis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnaud_II_de_La_Porte – La Porte was named Intendant of the Civil List (Minister of the Royal Household of Louis XVI) in December 1790 which gave him direct control of the large sums of money that were considered the private wealth of the King of France and so not subject to public audit.

Pine Rd and Durand Rd Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19115

Across the street from my home is Durand Road in Montgomery County, thus the reason for the non-green sign means it’s outside of Philadelphia. Durand was the name of the fake ID they gave to the King of France during the French Revolution when the King and his family tried to escape with Barron Batz. This is referenced in the excerpt “The Flight to Varennes: Narrative of the Journey to Varennes of Louis XVI and his Family, in June 1791” by Madame Royale, Duchess of Angoulême (Daughter of Louis XVI, Marie-Thérèse Charlotte Capet), inside the book “Royal Memoirs on the French Revolution” translated by John Wilson Croker.

Zooming out on maps.apple.com you can see there are only 3 main points of entry, accessible by roads beyond the “moat” series of rivers, and rainstorm run-offs as shown in the image above. As if we were ever to be attacked by troops & heavy artillery such as tanks. Keep in mind, this was planned and built less then 10 years after WW2 ended. The rivers & woods here are very beautiful, they are very deep & steep valleys, with many waterfalls. The closest is about 500 feet south of the Alburger Rd bridge. New Jersey is on the far bottom right, across the Delaware River from Philadelphia. This is Far Northeast Philly towards New York City, as Philadelphia is shaped like a “Y” so, technically there are 2 norths. Were on the right. The National Guard RSP is also located here, at 2700 Southampton Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19154 on the map where is says Benjamin Rush State Park.

855 Melmar Road Abington PA 19006

When my parents moved in, the area was all farmlands. Directly across the street from us at the end of Durand Rd sits 855 Melmar Road 19006 which was the country home of Nicholas Biddle which has 33 Rooms, & 9 Bathrooms. Though, there was nothing in between us except empty fields, there house was about 1,000 feet away.

Nicholas Biddle was the President of the Second Bank of the United States. It is now called the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Next to the U.S. National Archives on 14700 Townsend Road at 13000 Townsend Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19154 we have the Dept of Treasury, Bureau of the Fiscal Service, printing SSI checks for the majority of America, Collecting Federal Revenue, Disbursing Payments, Managing public debt. There not really the Federal Reserve, but a lot of locals call it that. Biddle’s original home is still here, but… In the 1980’s, they turned his land into a development of multi-million-dollar homes now called Biddle Estates.

Nicholas & Sarah Biddle Place Marker

Durand Road and Lippincott Road Abington PA 19006

Nicholas Biddle was married to Sarah Lippincott. Sarah was the daughter of Joshua Bertram and Joanna (Wharton) Lippincott and it also the name of the next street across from me, Lippincott Rd 19006. There is also a Nicholas Street at the end of Durand which starts at exactly behind his house. Nicholas’s brother, John married a Falcone girl, Eliza Falconer Bradish (Falconer was her mother’s maiden last name), changed to Eliza Bradish Biddle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Biddle_(Michigan_politician

1855 Melmar Road 19006 also called Melmar Mansion was built in 1910 for Nicholas & Sarah Biddle. The Biddle’s are one of America’s most prominent families who founded institutions such as Bailey, Banks and Biddle, JP Morgan, the Union League of Philadelphia, the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University, Duke University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Drexel University. Four US Navy ships have been named USS Biddle based on family members serving in high-ranking US positions. Nicholas’s brother was featured in the Disney movie “The Happiest Millionaire”, and his great uncle appears in the video game Assassins Creed III.

Presidential Seal, United States of America

Bailey, Banks and Biddle, another company founded by my neighbor Nicholas Biddle, played a significant role in updating the Great Seal of the United States. At the turn of the 20th century, the U.S. government commissioned Bailey, Banks and Biddle to redesign the Great Seal, and the version they created remains the official design used today.

The company also designed many important U.S. military medals, including the Medal of Honor, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bailey_Banks_%26_Biddle

A lot of the homes here go for over 1 million dollars. My house was right there in the middle, on Pine Road at the top the shape of the “L” that looks exactly like the Boston Red Sox logo. We’re on the city line, so I’m inside Philadelphia, but the homes on the other side of Pine are not. Were on very high elevation here. At the bottom of the hill is Huntingdon Valley aka Lower Moreland (Get it? Lo we are, more land.). Bryn Athyn, and Hollywood, PA are at the top of the valley.

Pine Valley, (Orleans) Philadelphia Pennsylvania
The Goldbergs TV Show

On the other side of the valley, at the top of that hill, is Abington, PA.
Coincidently, also the same place based on the TV show, “The Goldbergs.” Though, I never seen a single show, not even 30 seconds of it, I just know about it.

Shady Lane & Pine Road

Additionally, “The Golden Girls” which aired on NBC from Sept 14, 1985, to May 9, 1992 also talk about us in every episode, “Shady Pines” was the retirement home Rose burnt down, as in Shady Lane & Pine Rd located at Fox Chase Farm, and this is also the World Headquarters for the Medical Mission Sisters, a religious congregation of women in the Roman Catholic Church who bring justice and healing to women, children and men in 17 countries on five continents. In 2025, they are celebrating 100 years at 8400 Pine Road, Philadelphia.

The Medical Mission Sisters have been actively involved with the United Nations for over 30 years. They have special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and are accredited to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This allows them to participate in the work of the UN on an ongoing basis.

They frequently conduct parallel events during conferences, make written and oral statements, and advocate for social and environmental justice at the UN. Their participation is not just a one-time thing; they are consistently involved in various UN activities and meetings around the world.

Their mission has evolved over the years, focusing on providing holistic health care, advocating for the health of the Earth, and addressing issues like poverty and malnutrition. Peace Hermitage & Mission Green is part of their 65-acre property. It provides a space for prayerful solitude and reflection. These hermitages are designed for those seeking a quiet, secluded environment for spiritual growth. There is also a convent retirement home or motherhouse. These facilities provide a supportive and community-oriented environment for elderly nuns to live out their retirement years. Peace Hermitage can be used for those seeking a more secluded, prayerful retirement then compared to Mission Green, and the other group housing quarters.

Previously, that property belonged to the oldest home in Pennsylvania, the Ury House, which was located here. Built in 1640 & demolished in 1970, it frequented visitors such as: John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and even George Washington slept here. The school located on the grounds, has now relocated as the Valley Forge Military Academy. https://hiddencityphila.org/2017/10/ury-house-demo-in-the-1970s-erased-oldest-home-in-pa

Department of Defense

Department of Defense

In addition, one of the 4 main actresses in the show, Blanch Devereaux, coincidently the United States DoD – Department of Defense is located on Devereaux St & Oxford Ave, about 10 minutes from here, as Pine Road changes names to Oxford Ave & Rising Sun Ave at two different 5 points. This DoD site encompasses over 134 acres, in which its warehouse offices and other buildings amount to 2,250,000 square feet.

All My Children Soap Opera

ABC daytime soap opera “All My Children” with Kelly Ripa, which aired January 5, 1970, to September 23, 2011, is based in “Pine Valley” PA, a suburb of Philadelphia, the same name as my neighborhood, “Pine Valley” but in the soap opera, they are actually located on the other side of Philadelphia. https://www.soapoperanetwork.com/2021/01/all-my-children-reboot-pine-valley-abc-kane-santos-family

Get it? “All My Children” as how Louis XIV had 30 children.

In 2023, the TV series “Pine Valley” aired as a prime-time spin-off of the daytime drama soap opera “All My Children.” Their description reads as, “A prime-time drama series that follows a young journalist uncovering dark secrets in a fictional Philadelphia suburb.” It also starred the same cast, Kelly Rippa & Susan Lucci again from “All My Children.” https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13561428

Unrelated, but the first 10 years of “All My Children” …The original recordings from the 1970’s were destroyed in a fire. Also, I don’t know why they called it “fictional” while it may be a term only known by locals, any Realtor can look it up in the MLS, as this section is referred to as “Pine Valley” in the MLS Real Estate Data Base.

The Gibbet of Montfaucon 1303 during the reign of King Louis IX (Saint Louis) and used up until 1760 during the reign of Louis XV.

The highest elevation inside Paris & oldest Military Base in Paris is Montfauconhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibbet_of_Montfaucon now called the Parc des Buttes Chaumont – https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parc_des_Buttes_Chaumont as in my name, Mont Faucon / Matt Falcone. My name is Matt Falcone. The word Falcon in English translates to Faucon in French. Look it up in any French to English dictionary. The Gibbet of Montfaucon was constructed around 1303-1314 during the reign of King Louis IX (Saint Louis) and used up until 1760 during the reign of Louis XV, Louis XVI’s grandfather.

Unrelated to Pine Valley, but I think it’s strange that Louis IX became a Saint because he started Religious Wars, the Seventh and Eighth Crusade’s. The 7th aimed to reclaim the Holy Land by attacking Egypt, the main seat of Muslim power in the Near East. Pope Gregory X also supported the war, which were called Crusades at that time. The term crusade comes from the Medieval Latin word cruciata, which means “marked with a cross”. The word itself is derived from the Latin “crux”, meaning “cross”. The idea was that participants in these military expeditions were taking up the cross, symbolizing their commitment to a holy cause.

The 8th crusade was framed as a holy mission to combat the Muslim forces and reclaim Jerusalem for Christendom. King Louis IX believed that by attacking Tunis, he could weaken Muslim power in the region and pave the way for a future campaign to retake Jerusalem. The Eighth Crusade ended abruptly with Louis IX’s death, and the campaign did not progress further, and so he became a Saint for starting war.

To keep you confused, keep in mind… there are two are two “Gallows” aka “Gibbets” inside France named MontFaucon, one is inside Paris at the tallest elevation, and one is outside Paris.

If you don’t know what a “Gibbet” or “Gallow” is, it’s like a Jesus cross. In France, Montfaucon is the #1 oldest Military Base from 1303 to 1760, and is still to this day the longest operating Military establishment operating for 460 years. It was a place of public display to showcase the dead who committed crimes of treason against the King of France, as a warning to the population. After about 4 years, the criminals’ bodies are returned to their families.

On the east side of the words, in the “E” in Arlene, or the “N” in Orlean on the map of 19115, we have Geiger Road. A Geiger Counter is an instrument that measures radioactive levels.

In the 1990’s Lockheed Martin had a factory here on Geiger Road. They are a leading American aerospace and defense corporation, specializing in cutting-edge technology and solutions for air, land, sea, space, and cybersecurity challenges. www.lockheedmartin.com

On Red Line Road, we had The Budd Company. They were a 20th-century metal fabricator, a major supplier of body components to the automobile industry, and a manufacturer of stainless-steel passenger rail cars, airframes, missile and space vehicles, and various defense products. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budd_Company – During WW2, they switched production from rail cars to war heads & various Military Equipment.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has terminated the license held by the Budd Company for another facility in Philadelphia, which may have occurred at both locations, as this location which consisted of 75 acres was their main manufacturing facility, and the other may have been primarily used for offices, mailing address, and smaller manufacturing. https://www.nrc.gov/docs/ML0037/ML003702451.pdf

The Budd Company operated a hot cell facility in Philadelphia from l956 through l967 to manufacture sealed sources for use in industrial radiography. (A hot cell is a heavily shielded enclosure in which radioactive materials are handled by persons using remote manipulators, such as mechanical arms, and viewed through shielded windows or periscopes.) A small amount of unsealed cesium-137 was also used for a brief time at the facility. They were a US Government Contractor, nothing was illegal.

Laramie

In addition, we also have Laramie Road. I always wondered what the meaning of Laramie meant, as I have seen roads all over the world with the same name, such as in Canada.

The Laramie Mountains in Black Hills / Paha Sapa, USA was one of the largest Uranium mining sites in the USA. https://www.nuclear-risks.org/en/hibakusha-worldwide/black-hillspaha-sapa.html

The Black Hills are considered a sacred place by the Lakota people and are representative of the entire four-state region of South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota, where thousands of uranium mines or exploration wells are located. For more than 40 years, the local population has been exposed to the radioactive legacy of the former uranium rush.

missile silos, launch facilities, and nuclear silos

Behind my house at 9643 Pine Rd. inside Buckley Place, and also Buckley Terrace, Almatt Place, Almatt Terrace, Myers Circle, Mark Place, Johnathin Place, Kismet Place, etc… etc… and so on, whatever… we have various dead end streets, which the locals refer to as a “cul-de-sacs” as they strikingly resemble a cement covered launch facilities or nuclear silos, in which the process requires the cement cover to be blown off by explosives, so the missile underneath can launch intercontinentally.

The cement part on top of missile silos serves several crucial purposes:

  1. Protection: The cement or concrete covering the top of a missile silo acts as a shield against external threats, such as explosions, debris, and weather conditions. This helps to safeguard the missile and its launch mechanisms.
  2. Blast Door: The top of the silo is equipped with a heavy blast door made of reinforced concrete. This door can be blasted opened when it’s time to launch. The design of these doors ensures that they can withstand significant forces.
  3. Camouflage: The concrete covering can help the silo blend in with its surroundings, making it less detectable from aerial or satellite reconnaissance.
  4. Structural Integrity: The concrete provides structural stability to the silo, ensuring that the missile remains securely housed and that the launch mechanisms function correctly.
  5. When it’s time to launch: Explosive charges & hydraulic systems are used to quickly open the doors, allowing the missile to be launched without delay. This ensures that the missile can be deployed rapidly while maintaining maximum protection when not in use.
Flagstaff Rd

We also have, “Flagstaff Rd.” …Get it? Flag, like the American Flag & Staff.

Beth Dr

At the center of the map, we have Beth Drive, next to my house, and across the street from Durand Road. This can be deciphered as the name Beth itself is primarily a diminutive or abbreviation of the name Elizabeth, such as in Elizabth II, or Elizabeth I.

Buckley Drive

Going northbound on Pine, the next street is Buckley Dr. There is also a Buckley Place, and Terrace. This can be decoded as in a diminutive or abbreviation for Buckingham Palace. Buckingham Palace is a renowned royal residence located in London, England. It serves as the administrative headquarters of the monarch of the United Kingdom and is often at the center of state occasions and royal hospitality. The part “ley” might mean lie, in French “Le” and “Ley” mean “The.”

Laramie Rd

Below us we have Stratford Drive. This can relate to Stratford, London. It can also be a reference to Stratford-upon-Avon, which is famous for being the birthplace of William Shakespeare, one of the greatest playwrights in history.

We also have a Williamsburg Road, which played a crucial role in the events leading up to the American Revolution. And, …we also have Almatt Place, Almatt Terrace, Almatt Drive, such as “All Matt” as in my name, Matt.

In the movie, “Trading Places” with Eddie Murphey, that was filmed in Philadelphia, ….his name is Billy Ray Valentine, but it sounds like Billy Revel on Pine, as in the French Revolution. Additionally, we have a Winthrop Road which is also one of the main characters from Duke & Duke, Louis Winthrop III.

Also, in Back to the Future, the Mall Scene where the Libyans arrive to get back their stolen Plutonium, the name of the mall is “Twin Pines” …there is also a “Lone Pine” Mall in the movie. The Twin Pines Mall in the movie, is almost an exact replica of the Plymouth Meeting Mall, which is about 25 minutes away from Pine Rd. Nancy was found dead in their New York City hotel room in October 1978, and Sid was arrested for her murder. Their tragic story was dramatized in the 1986 film “Sid and Nancy,” portrays their chaotic relationship and the tragic events leading to their deaths.

Keep in mind, these names with historical British references are quite common not only in Philadelphia but also in many parts of the USA. Pine Valley may just be a continuation of that. Except for the part that they are engulfed inside the words Orleans, this is a first, and it deploys espionage. Keep in mind the Revolution did occur here in Philadelphia, where else would they build something like this? Many streets are also named Windsor in the vicinity. Other examples outside of Pine Valley Philadelphia that mostly everyone already knows, especially those from this area, as they should have learned this in elementary school do include:

Philadelphia:

  • Lower Dublin Township – Also known as Dublin Township, was a township that was located in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, United States. The township ceased to exist and was incorporated into the City of Philadelphia following the passage of the Act of Consolidation, 1854. It is now called Northeast Philadelphia, Bustleton section.

  • Kensington (Neighborhood of Philadelphia) – Kensington Palace is a royal residence situated within Kensington Gardens in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London, England. It has served as a residence for the British royal family since the 17th century and is currently the official London residence of several royals.

  • Sheffield (Neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia) – It is bordered by Frankford Avenue to the north and Bustleton Avenue to the south. Named after Sheffield, England, and is very near to Pine Valley.

  • Somerton (Far Neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia) – Somerton is a historic town in Somerset, England. It is believed to be the origin of the name for the neighborhood in Philadelphia. It was once the capital of Wessex before Winchester.

Pennsylvania & Philadelphia Suburbs:

  • Pennsylvania – The founder of Pennsylvania, William Penn was an English servant of the King. Many places in Pennsylvania were named to honor Penn. His father, Admiral Sir William Penn, was a prominent naval commander who served King Charles II of England. As a result, young William Penn was introduced to the royal court and developed a close relationship with King Charles II. This connection played a significant role in Penn receiving the land grant that would become Pennsylvania.

  • Bristle, PA (Bristol) – Likely named after Bristol, England, reflecting the town’s historical ties to the British Isles.

  • Southampton, PA – Named after Southampton, England, reflecting the settlers’ origins.

  • Bucks County, PA – Named after Buckinghamshire, England.

  • Montgomery County, PA – Adjoining Pine Valley and Pine Road. It was named after General Richard Montgomery, an American Revolutionary War hero from the British Army.

  • York, PA – Named after the city of York in Yorkshire, England.

  • Lancaster, PA– Named after the city of Lancaster in Lancashire, England.

New York:

  • New York – Originally named New Amsterdam by Dutch settlers, it was renamed New York in honor of the Duke of York (who later became King James II of England) after the English took control.

The builders of Pine Road, were the Rubins. That was the name of the construction company. Their family members lived behind me. My parents assisted with the construction; they installed some of the insulation in our home, and we still have photographs of this. We had the original For Sale brochures up until about 2023, when one of my brothers decided to trash the entire contents of the home when my father died.

Two doors down in the old Biddle Barn House, were our neighbors the Levitt’s, such as in Levittown, PA and New York, the first suburb in America. Levitt & Sons is often referred to as the “father of modern American suburbia.” (Photo: Mr. Levitt 9647 Pine Rd.)

My parents were my best friends. I bought my 1st home in 2004, in the 19115, when I was 24. When my parents got old & sick, I had to move back in with them & keep my personal home vacant. We had a 45-year age difference. We wanted to prevent them from going into a nursing home, and also having the nursing home take away their home, thus it prevented us from transferring it into a trust with the Sate of PA 5-year rule. We had nurses, round the clock for 24 hours. I was not embarrassed living with my parents. I actually enjoyed it very much. We would eat dinner together every day. We never argued my whole life, and they never argued with each other, never… not one time. My whole life I was never yelled at. They were a lot older than me, and as their age progressed, I had to cook for them 3 meals a day, and do everything for them… because we didn’t want to put them in a nursing home. One time, my vegan cooking gave my father low iron, low hemoglobin (which requires a blood transfusion to fix immediately), it makes you weak, and you can’t move…. So, I had to sleep on the floor next to him for a month. I didn’t know about the Nutrition Tracking Meal Diary Cell Phone Free App called www.cronometer.com at that time. My father died because the nurse gave him covid, in 2023 two years after covid was pretty much gone. My mother died from surgery complications. They were both born in the early 1930’s during the great depression in South Philadelphia. I miss them very much and think about them all the time.

Merck Manual

My father was a prominent Book Publisher, similar to myself also a publisher. He was the VP at Ruttle, Shaw & Wetherill where he started at the age of 13 around 1945 until about 1990. In the early 1900’s they were Linotypers, Typographers, Editors, & Publishers; and Graphic Designers after the computer was invented. One of their notable works that they published was the Merck Manual Professional /and/ Merck Manual Consumer, an indispensable resource for medical professionals; it was the most popular reference guide for Medical Professionals, on how to treat hospital patients. It’s what Hospitals used before the internet & computers. It covers a wide range of medical topics, including symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, and prevention of diseases

My mother worked at Orleans Technical College & also the School District of Philadelphia as a part time substitute teacher, and her/my friends worked in operations. They also owned a printing company specializing in medical forms. They both retired around 1990, and they were fluent in Gregg Shorthand or Duployan shorthand. All of my mother’s notes from College at Temple University were written like this, as it was very common to teach to university students in the 1950’s. She also read 3 books a week, and kept a library of thousands of her favorite books she read through her 80 years of life in the USA.

I think this is the best home in America. I don’t care about those big homes in California or Florida nor Donald Trump’s home in Key Largo. I don’t think his home is better than mine, they have no historical background. I only mention that b/c I hear it in the news every day for the past 5 years. Maybe that’s why the “Donald Trump National Golf Club Philadelphia” located in New Jersey is in a city with the same name as mine, Pine Hill / Pine Valley. Here, we have the Fox Chase Farm to enjoy, it’s 117 acres, and is a one hour walk to loop it.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates Palm Island

The only homes or Cities that might even come close, might be Dubai, United Arab Emirates – World Islands, or Dubai Palm Island ….but, we did this in the 1950’s, and they just started.

Louis XVI’s financial support to the United States during the American Revolutionary War primarily came in the form of loans and supplies. The financial assistance was crucial for the American colonists in their fight against British rule. Here are the details of how the money was distributed:

Financial Agreements:
In February 1778, France and the United States signed the Treaty of Alliance, formally allying France with the American colonists. As part of this agreement, France pledged its support, including financial aid, to the United States.

Loans:
France provided substantial loans to the United States to fund their war efforts. The most significant loan came in 1778 when the French government arranged a loan of 2 million livres (a French currency) from the French banking house of Le Couteulx et Cie. This initial loan was followed by additional loans, including a total of 10 million livres in 1779 and 24 million livres in 1780.

Supplies and Military Aid:
In addition to financial assistance, France also provided military supplies and aid to the American colonists. The French Navy played a crucial role in the war by assisting in naval blockades and engaging in key battles, such as the Battle of Yorktown in 1781, which was a decisive victory for the Americans. The French military support included troops, warships, weapons, and ammunition.

Benjamin Franklin’s Role:
Benjamin Franklin, the American envoy to France, played a significant role in negotiating and securing French support. He worked closely with the French government to secure financial aid and other resources for the American cause. Franklin’s diplomacy and influence were instrumental in obtaining French assistance.

Distribution of Funds:
The funds received from France were primarily managed by the Continental Congress, the governing body of the American colonies during the Revolutionary War. Congress used the funds to pay for various war-related expenses, such as purchasing supplies, equipping troops, and maintaining military operations. Some funds were also used to pay off existing debts.

It is important to note that while Louis XVI and France’s support was crucial for the American cause, the financial aid alone did not guarantee victory in the war. The American colonists faced numerous challenges throughout the conflict, and the outcome of the war was determined by a combination of factors, including military strategy, perseverance, and the support of other nations such as Spain and the Netherlands.

The British and French royal families have a long history of intermarriage, resulting in blood connections between the two dynasties. Here are some key relationships that link the British and French royal families:

The House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and the House of Orléans: In the 19th century, the British royal family, known as the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (later renamed the House of Windsor), had a connection to the French royal family through Queen Victoria. In 1840, Victoria married Prince Albert, who was a member of the German noble House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Their daughter, Princess Victoria, married Prince Louis of Battenberg, whose mother was a member of the House of Orléans, a branch of the French royal family.

The House of Hanover and the House of Bourbon: The Hanoverian dynasty in Britain began with the accession of George I in 1714. The Hanoverians were related to the French Bourbon dynasty through Sophia of Hanover, whose mother was Elizabeth Stuart, daughter of James VI and I. Sophia’s uncle, Charles I of England and Scotland, married Henrietta Maria of France, a member of the House of Bourbon. Therefore, there was a blood connection between the Hanoverians and Bourbons through the Stuart lineage.

William III of England (William of Orange): William III, also known as William of Orange, became King of England, Scotland, and Ireland in 1689 after the Glorious Revolution. He was the son of William II, Prince of Orange, and Mary, Princess Royal, the daughter of King Charles I of England. His marriage to his first cousin Mary II, daughter of James II, further strengthened the ties between the British and Dutch royal families. In the TV show “Versailles” he is portrayed to be living at his cousins’ home, Louis XIV while they were at war together with each other. While the historical evidence on this is scarce, it is most likely portrayed for theatrical storytelling purposes. It’s almost as if they weren’t really enemies, they were sort of portrayed as if children of today were playing a war video game together, or children of 100 years ago playing a game of chess. Maybe in reality, it was their staff at war. It brings light to the point of the fact that TV shows shouldn’t be able to change historical information. People wouldn’t like it if they changed the stories of Jesus or Allah, so why is it ok to change the historical stories of anyone else.

Louis XIV and Charles II: During the 17th century, King Charles II of England, Scotland, and Ireland was the first cousin to Louis XIV of France. Their mothers, Henrietta Maria of France (Charles II’s mother) and Anne of Austria (Louis XIV’s mother), were sisters, which created a familial connection. This relationship influenced their diplomatic interactions, although it did not prevent wars between their countries.

The House of Stuart and the House of Bourbon: One significant connection between the two royal families was through the marriage of Mary, Queen of Scots, a member of the Stuart dynasty, to Francis II of France, who belonged to the House of Valois-Bourbon. Their son, James VI of Scotland (later James I of England and Ireland), became the first monarch of the Stuart dynasty to rule over England and Scotland, effectively uniting the crowns from 1567 to 1625.

Edward III and Isabella of France: Edward III of England, who reigned from 1327 to 1377, was married to Philippa of Hainault. However, a significant blood connection between the British and French royal families came through Edward III’s mother, Isabella of France. Isabella was the daughter of King Philip IV of France, making Edward III a grandson of a French king.
